CHEYENNE WOODS GOLF CLINIC 2023 - 2024
The inaugural Cheyenne Woods Golf Clinic marked a significant milestone at Jackson Park Driving Range, bringing families together for a day of golf and community. With Cheyenne Woods leading the charge, the event offered a blend of skill-building, fun activities, and engaging discussions. Youth had the opportunity to ask insightful questions, while attendees enjoyed cornhole, football toss, soccer, and groundskeeping presentations. The clinic was a perfect introduction to the world of golf, providing a platform for youth to learn from professionals and connect with their peers.

Cheyenne Woods Golf Clinics
Building on the success of the first event, the 2nd Cheyenne Woods Golf Clinic took things to the next level, with even more energy and excitement. The weather was perfect, DJ Sheila Thurman kept the vibe grooving, and activities like cornhole, football toss, soccer, and groundskeeping presentations continued to captivate everyone. A special moment was witnessing Cheyenne and pro baseball player Aaron Hicks’s 2-year-old son, Cameron, effortlessly hitting golf balls with a real club—proving that talent truly runs in the family! These events showcase the JPGA’s commitment to youth empowerment, skill development, and creating lasting memories for all involved.

Swinging Into Opportunity: The APGA Youth Clinic
On May 27, 2023, the Jackson Park Golf Association (JPGA) partnered with the Advocates Professional Golf Association (APGA) Tour to host an unforgettable youth clinic at the South Shore Cultural Center Learning Center. With the stunning Lake Michigan as a backdrop, 27 children, grouped by age, engaged in a day of learning, mentorship, and fun.
The clinic featured three teaching sessions: mental wellness led by Dr. Robyn Jackson, careers in the golf industry, and golf skills taught by professional golfers on the APGA Tour. Participants also explored the science of golf, as Adam Stewart introduced First Green’s STEM-based environmental education program, and Anthony J. Williams shared insights into the mechanics and physics of the sport.
Five APGA Tour golfers, including Mulbe Dillard IV, provided one-on-one coaching in driving, chipping, and putting, leaving a lasting impression on the children. One participant shared how meaningful it was to receive lessons from a pro who looked like them, showcasing the importance of representation in golf.
The day was further enriched by a 500-word essay contest on the theme “Why it is important to make positive choices in your health, wellness, and careers,” with Dylan Ford winning the $500 prize and several runners-up earning $250 each. Attendees also enjoyed delicious lunches from Phat Katz Catering, Inc. and walked away with prizes like TVs, golf club sets, and more, generously donated by partners like Golf Course Builders Association of America’s Sticks for Kids Program.
This collaborative event exemplified the missions of JPGA and APGA to provide opportunities and expand access to golf for underrepresented communities, inspiring the next generation of players and leaders in the sport.
